Dermapen

Dermapen is a medical microneedling treatment that creates controlled microchannels in the skin to activate its natural repair process. It is used to improve texture, soften marks and scars, refine pores and increase skin firmness. Available at Alta Armonía, El Albir.

What Dermapen is and what it is for

Dermapen is a microneedling device that makes very superficial, controlled microperforations in the skin. These micro-injuries do not significantly damage the skin barrier, but they do activate the body’s repair response: collagen and elastin production is stimulated and the structure of the dermis is renewed.

The depth of the needles is adjusted for each area and each indication, which makes it possible to work from a superficial renewal of the texture through to treating deeper scars or marks. The microchannels created also help the active ingredients applied during the session to penetrate.

It is a treatment planned in cycles, with sessions spaced out to give the tissue time to complete its regeneration process between one and the next.

Dermapen is one of the facial aesthetic medicine treatments at Alta Armonía in El Albir, within the group of techniques that aim to stimulate the regeneration of the skin. Working along the same lines are platelet-rich plasma, using the patient’s own growth factors, and SkinBooster, aimed at deep hydration. Which one is appropriate, or in what combination, is determined at the first consultation.

The session, step by step

1. Assessment. The condition of the skin is reviewed and the working depth is defined, which is not the same for an acne scar as for an enlarged pore or the eye contour.

2. Cleansing and topical anaesthetic. The area is cleansed of make-up and an anaesthetic cream may be applied before starting.

3. Microperforations. The head passes over the area creating controlled microchannels. The sensation varies with depth and area: more comfortable on the cheeks, more sensitive on the forehead and nose.

4. Afterwards. The skin is left red, looking rather like mild sunburn, for a day or two. This is the expected response of the tissue.

5. The following days. Strict sun protection and whatever skincare is indicated at the end of the session. The skin is renewing itself and that determines what can be applied to it.

The result is progressive: the collagen stimulation works over the weeks following each session. The schedule is set at the first consultation.

Acne marks, pores and texture

This is its clearest territory. When the acne is no longer active but has left depressed marks and an uneven texture, the work is not anti-inflammatory: it is tissue repair, and that is where microneedling stimulates the body to rebuild.

If the acne is still active, the approach is different and this is where Exilitecomes in, working on the inflammatory component. And when the aim is to reinforce the regenerative stimulus, Dermapen is combined with PRP, providing the patient’s own growth factors.

What is appropriate at each stage of the process is determined by the assessment: applying microneedling over active acne is not indicated.

The treatment is carried out at our medical aesthetic centre in El Albir, at Av. de l’Albir 155.

Why choose Dermapen at Alta Armonía

The device allows the penetration to be regulated according to the area of the face and the objective, which makes it possible to treat delicate areas and more heavily marked areas in the same session.

It is one of the treatments of reference when the main problem is not wrinkles but the quality of the skin’s surface: enlarged pores, uneven texture, marks.

The improvement depends on the formation of new collagen, so it shows gradually over the weeks following each session.

The indication, the working depth and the active ingredients applied are established after a medical assessment, and the treatment is carried out by qualified healthcare staff with a sterile single-use head.

Frequently asked questions about Dermapen

It is planned as a cycle of several spaced sessions to allow the tissue to regenerate between one and the next. The number depends on the indication — treating texture is not the same as treating scarring — and is set at the initial assessment.

It is a well-tolerated treatment. A topical anaesthetic is applied before the session and the usual sensation is one of vibration and warmth. The intensity depends on the working depth, which is adjusted to each area.

It is normal for the skin to be red for the following hours, with a sensation similar to sun exposure. We recommend strict sun protection and avoiding make-up and direct sun for the first few days.

Yes. It fits well into skin-quality protocols alongside deep hydration treatments or mesotherapy, always with the schedule and intervals set by the medical assessment.

Usually redness like mild sunburn for a day or two, depending on the working depth. We explain this before the session so you can choose your timing if you have something coming up.

That is not its indication. With active acne the approach is different —Exilite works on the inflammatory component. Dermapen comes afterwards, when what remains is marking and uneven texture.

It can, but it requires strict sun protection in the following days and avoiding direct exposure. With a recent tan or planned sun exposure, the sensible thing is to wait. It is assessed in consultation.
