Exilite

Exilite is an intense pulsed light (IPL) platform that acts on pigmentation, superficial vascular lesions and hair. It is used for facial photorejuvenation and medical hair removal, with the parameters adjusted to each skin type after a prior assessment. Available at Alta Armonía, El Albir.

What Exilite is and what it is for

Exilite is an intense pulsed light (IPL)system. It emits broad-spectrum pulses of light that the tissue absorbs selectively: the melanin in a pigmented spot or a hair follicle and the haemoglobin in a small dilated vessel take up that energy and turn it into heat, while the surrounding skin is left practically unaffected.

Its indications rest on that selectivity: photorejuvenation and the treatment of pigmentation, the treatment of superficial vascular lesions — broken capillaries, rosacea, small thread veins — and medical hair removal, on both facial and body areas.

The parameters are not the same for everyone: the equipment is adjusted to the skin phototype, the area and the lesion to be treated, and that configuration is decided at the prior medical consultation. That is why recent sun exposure and the time of year determine when it can be carried out.

Exilite is one of the facial aesthetic medicine treatments at Alta Armonía in El Albir, aimed at pigmentation, vascular lesions and photoageing. When what needs working on is texture and firmness rather than pigment, the techniques of reference are Dermapen and SkinBooster. The indication is established at the first consultation.

Exilite for acne

Acne is one of the indications for intense pulsed light and one of the least associated with it. The light acts on the inflammatory component of the lesion and on the redness left after a flare-up, that persistent redness which often lasts longer than the spot itself.

It does not replace medical treatment for acne where that is needed: it is planned as part of an approach, and it is the assessment that determines whether it is indicated in your case, at what stage of the process and with what parameters.

When what remains is not active acne but marks and uneven texture, the work moves to different ground and this is where Dermapencomes in, stimulating tissue repair. And the medical peel works on renewing the surface. They are complementary approaches, not alternatives.

The session, step by step

1. Assessment and skin phototype. The skin type, any tan and the lesion to be treated are reviewed. Intense pulsed light is not indicated for every skin or at every time of year, and that is checked beforehand.

2. Eye protection. Patient and practitioner wear protective glasses throughout the session.

3. Conductive gel and pulses. A cold gel is applied to the area and the pulses are delivered with the filter and parameters chosen for that specific indication.

4. Afterwards. Mild redness that settles within hours is normal. With pigmentation, the expected response is for the spots to darken for a few days before clearing.

What you feel during the pulses is similar to a small snap of a rubber band with warmth. It is a well-tolerated treatment and the schedule is set at the first consultation.

All of this is carried out at Alta Armonía, a medical aesthetic centre in El Albir, under healthcare supervision.

How Exilite works

The energy is taken up by melanin and haemoglobin, not by the healthy skin around them. That is why it can act on a pigmented spot, a vessel or a follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Acne, photorejuvenation and pigmentation, superficial vascular lesions and medical hair removal, changing the filter and the parameters according to what is being treated.

The skin phototype, any tan and the area determine how the equipment is configured. That is what makes the prior medical assessment essential.

The indication and the parameters are set by qualified healthcare staff, after taking a medical history and ruling out contraindications.

Who Exilite treatment is suitable for

  • Sun spots on the face, décolletage or backs of the hands
  • Active acne and acne-prone skin
  • Superficial vascular lesions: broken capillaries, rosacea and small thread veins
  • Skin with signs of photoageing and uneven tone
  • Medical hair removal on facial and body areas
  • Those who want to improve the quality and tone of their skin without surgery
  • Patients with no recent tan or other contraindications, assessed at a prior consultation

Exilite works on the colour and texture of the skin; Exilis works on its firmness. When both objectives coincide, the assessment sets the order and the intervals between them.

Frequently asked questions about Exilite

What people ask us most before starting

For acne, for photorejuvenation and pigmentation, for superficial vascular lesions — broken capillaries, rosacea and thread veins — and for medical hair removal. At the assessment we determine which applies to your case and with what parameters.

It is not advisable. Intense pulsed light acts on melanin, and tanned skin increases the risk of a reaction. It is best to avoid sun exposure before and after the session and to plan the treatment for the right time of year.

It is a well-tolerated treatment. You see a flash of light and feel brief warmth at the treated point. Protective glasses are worn throughout the session.

Mild redness may remain for a few hours and, in the case of pigmentation, temporary darkening before the spots clear. Strict sun protection during the following days is essential.

No. It is planned as a course of sessions adapted to each case, and the number is determined at the medical assessment according to the type of acne, how extensive it is and whether there is medical treatment under way.

Not on all of them. Intense pulsed light works on the contrast between the lesion and the surrounding skin, so on darker phototypes or with a recent tan it may not be indicated, or may require waiting. It is one of the first things checked at the assessment.

It depends on the area and the indication treated. Guidance on make-up, skincare and sun protection is given at the end, and sun protection is especially important in the following days.
